Title: Bach Man: On30 power requirements
Post by: Jay Newman on May 02, 2010, 10:34:35 PM
Bach Man,

I'm brand spanking new to the hobby - just bought a 1890s 4-4-0 - beautiful loco.  Just about to lay track on my first layout.  It is an ambitious (for a newbie) 2 module layout with elevation and will have a bent trestle bridge and tunnel.

A little confused about voltage requirements for On30.  I understand it pulls about .5 Amps, but what is the correct voltage requirement range?  0-16V for HO or 0-21V for O scale?

Thanks a bunch!

The HO standards are good to follow for that, many of the motors in the ON30 locomotives are also used in HO locos. So 0-16V is probally good (I prefer to stay at 12 or lower myself just to be on the safe side, and being narrow gauge the locomotives don't need to go that fast anyway.)
Just my 2C,
Ryan
