I just bought a wonderfully looking WP&YR Consolidation. When I tried to run it the lights came on and I got a distinct humming sound, but no movement. Any suggestions to get it going would be helpful! :(
Sounds like the Final Drive Gear on the Axle has broken. Its a common fault on the Connie but cheap and easy to repair. Give the Service Dept a ring and they should be able to fix you up. I did one here in New Zealand about 2 years ago. Cost me $16 for the part.

Look in the parts listing. You can buy just the gear for $3, or the gear/wheel/axle assembly for $12. I just had the same thing happen to mine after 7 years of service. (See the similar thread nearby.) I ordered a replacement gear from Northwest Short Line. I was told it was brass, but am now hearing it may not be. It's probably sitting in my mailbox as I write this, but it's pouring outside right now and I'm not in the mood to get soaked just to go check.
