Anyone who attending the NMRA convention, please take lots of photos of any new On30 items the Bach Man shares with the public at the convention and then share them with those of us unfortunate enough not to be able to attend.
Thanks.
On30 seems to really be popular now. I like many others await to see what Bachmann brings out!!! D. Calloway
Gosh, is it really that time again? I don't know if they realease locos this early in the year but if they do I would hope for a 2-6-2, since theres no point wishing for something which I'm sure we all know about. ;)
Rolling stock wise, an excursion car or a flat car with a donkey engine on it like the HO and G one would be nice. :)
Anyway, please do take plenty of pictures as some of us aren't even in the right country! :P
I would start looking on this board along about Wednesday next week for the new equipment announcements from the Bachmann.
It would be nice if we managed to get models released in previous years available here in Australia. I am still waiting on the 2-6-6-2, the long caboose and the 2-car rail car amongst other things.
My local hobby shop places orders with the suppliers but the items never arrive. He likens opening up deliveries is like opening a Christmas surprise parcel - you never know what's in there!

Here's hoping against hope that we'll finally get the Prairie we so richly deserve. That model from Victor's Models in England looks great, but I have zero confidence in my modeling abilities to attempt one of those-especially when the price of failure would be dear. John Tumolo Britcarfan@aol.com
With so much interest in new items, I hope everyone will find something new for them to add to their stable.
Since I am generally interested in logging stuff and have just about all I need except for one engine.
What might that be? It's taboo to mention the BIG H...
TOF
A big and modern H...... ! (No, I´m not saying the H-word...)
A Sandy River No.24....?
A RGS/C&S No.74...?
We´ll see soon!
Cheers, Tom ;D ;D ;D
Yup. This time next week we'll all be either yahooing or whinging for another year. ::) ::) ::) ;D
Hopefully the Bach-man will give us something to keep us away from demanding a H..... for another year.... :P :P :P :P :P
Cheers, Tom ;)
Hey Tomcat:
The only way they'll do that is to give in to our wish list of several flamming years....................... namely: the H.....
Oh!!! Blast It:::

Hey folks, maybe we need to create and sing a H-E-I-S-L-E-R song for all that loggers out there.... :P :P :P :P :P ...before we get the well-deserved.....
Tom ;)
It's to late to jinx it this year, so we may as well let off a bit of steam. But Come next month, it's back to 'that which can't be named ' territory for another year. sigh
I hope you guys get what you are asking for, partially so that you can move on to complaining that it's not the exact sort of Heisler you want, and partially so that I can avoid having to buy another rod loco that my railroad really doesn't need, but which I just can't resist. ;^)
But seriously, photos from Milwaukee would be greatly appreciated.

Words to your heisler song
Oh please mr bachmann don't be a miser, break loose with the molds and make me a heisler, long and lean no rods to be seen, loud and bold, so many will be sold, oh please mr bachmann make her last for years, keep all your plastic and fill her with brass gears, oh please mr bachmann make our heisler dreams come true, please mr bachmann you know what you must doooooo.
O M G !!!!!!! ;D :o :o :o Man, where did that come from.???? Talk about left field!!!! You haven't been knocking back the turps have you, NM ?? :D :D :D
Outstanding. Can´t find a word to describe my feelings: THIS IS IT!!!!
Thanks NarrowMinded: You made my day!!!! :P :P :P
Now it´s up the Bach-man to make our day, eh´months, eh´years to come....
And not to wait any longer for a ..... S-I-N-G it... :D :D :D
Cheers, Tom ;)
No Lenz-, maybe a little too much time glueing plastic but Tomcat had asked for a song to sing for the heisler, so I could not resist.
NM
as nice as NM's lyrics are, they're incorrect... we do want rods...... heisler axles are connected to each other via side rods.............. ;D
I claim poetic license, all the geared loco have a rod driving them somewhere in the drive train.
NM
I'll be there Saturday and will post any pics hopefully that evening.

That would be great Scott, thanks.

Okay, I know I promised pictures, but the Porter models they had on display are the identical models photographed in the downloadable brochure. Not a finalized paint job at all. Best I can tell, both models look nearly identical to the originally released ones. My photos will not be nearly as good as the ones that have already been published.
Unfortunately, every time I passed the booth Lee was busy talking (surprise) so I didn't get a chance to ask about the speaker or decoder specifications. Plus, I had my two-year-old and it turns out he is not the least bit interested in static models.
I'll look over the few photos I did take and if I find any reason to post them I will.

Scott -
How many On30 layouts were on display at NTS? I'm assuming Bachmann's display layout was there as a given.
-John
Thanks Scott, no problem at all. You never know how these things will turn out.
I did find a blog by Jeff Shultz at Model Railroad Hobbyist, which covers some of the NTS, although it is obviously HO and N centric.

Sorry to disappoint, John. There was only one On30 layout there that I saw at the NTS, and it was a small one (about 4 x 4 or smaller.) Basically an oval running around a small farm building. Pretty well done for the most part.
No On30 layout at the Bachmann display, just the Porters.
Rusty
Wow! For as popular as On30 supposedly is, you'd have thought that there would have been at least one decent sized display layout.
Well ... maybe next year....
-John
Usually, the modular clubs are the ones that show up at these sorts of shows, and I can't find any mention of a modular On30 club in the Wisconsin area on the On30 Annual listing. There may be one, but I can't find it. I would suspect that the influence of Kalmbach and Walthers might make it a more prototypical HO/N area.
On the other hand, next years NMRA convention is in Sacramento, and California has lots of On30 activity across the state. So hopefully the On30 representation will be better next year.

Like most of us on this board, I was disappointed in the lack of new On30 stuff from Bachmann. The Porters may have been re-engineered, but they aren't "new". They did hold out some promise of something new towards year-end (which I take to mean the holiday season). FWIW, I happen to think that the Baldwin industrial Mogul announced in Large scale would be a very nice addition to the On30 line. ;)
Personally, I really like the look of the new LS 2-4-2T for On30, although I know there is a lot of interest in other "geared" locos. It would sure be cool to get an announcement or two at the National Narrow Gauge Convention, which is certain to have more people interested in On30 than the crowd at Milwaukee.
That's probably too much anticipating...

Yeah, there was just the one On30 layout. It is a section from a local home layout - actually nicely done - the guy brings it to all the local shows. Just a point to point section more for display than anything. He will run a Forney or Shay or whatever he brings with him - back and forth. They were right next to the "kid-activated" Lionel layout that was louder than all heck. Bachmann did not have their On30 layout there.
The only other things On30 related were a few of the laser structure manufacturers that have O scale offerings. There was one store that had quite a bit of Bachmann's On30 items, too. Can't remember which one it was. Their pricing was quite a bit higher than "street price" though.
No other narrow gauge to speak of. I was also surprised at the complete lack of anything large scale at the show. Just Bachmann's display booth and one retailer that had just a few of the standard gauge freight cars in the blue box. No running models at all. At Trainfest in Milwaukee each November there are at least 3 or 4 running large scale layouts.
Plenty of HO (snore) and a surprising number of N scale layouts - the quality of those little trains is really amazing. There was also one 2-rail O layout. A couple of Z scale layouts had spectacular scenery - one in particular I found absolutely outstanding.
But sadly, not much for us On30ers.
