Title: Micro-Trains coupler conversion for 2-8-0?
Post by: NorfolkAndWestern578 on July 26, 2010, 02:46:44 PM
I'm converting all of my old Rapido-equipped locomotives over to either Micro-Trains or Bachmann dummy knuckles. Does anyone know if there's a Micro-trains coupler that will work on the pilot of the Spectrum 2-8-0? I currently have the Rapido coupler installed on it, but I'd like to somehow get a knuckle coupler onto it since I use it a lot as a helper on freights. Does Micro-Trains make a conversion kit for the pilot coupler, or is it just for the rear coupler? Thanks to anyone that can help.

IIRC,  the pilot uses a z scale coupler, (905?), but  some modifications are needed.
I would post this question in the N section of the trainboard.com forums,
the best modellers in the business are all over there.

You need to trim the back of the coupler pocket on the Z-scale coupler. Tricky but doable....
