Title: roundhouse x turntable - what combines with what ???
Post by: duddy09 on September 15, 2010, 02:53:16 PM
Hello friends !

I am just starting with my second N layout and I intend to install  an automatic  turntable ( probably an Atlas ) , that  I still didn't buy.

I got two beautiful Faller roudhouses, 2 bay shed each one , that will be builted together.

So... I found that there are several brands of roundhouses & turntables , and maybe they don't have the same track spaces ...

Could you help me ?

An Atlas turntable will play well with a Faller roudhouse ? Or should I go through an Heljan, Arnold , Peco ...  :o  ::)

Thanks a lot for the opportunity,

Luiz

Each turntable has tracks at various degrees, some are 10, some 15 and some 20. Each roundhouse is the same way so see what degrees your roundhouse stalls are at and buy a turntable that has tracks at those angles.

The Atlas turntable and roundhouse are designed to work together and have matching track spacing.

The only automatic turntable available for N is the Walthers Cornerstone. It can be programed to any track spacing to work with any roundhouse. It can store up to 80 spots and the new version has a DCC decoder installed so that you can control it from your DCC system if you would like.

There are some kits to adapt to Heljan and Peco turntable to automatic function but it will cost you almost as much as the Walthers complete turntable and quite honestly won't work as well. After helping a gentleman the other day with a Heljan HO turntable, I wouldn't bother with it myself. By the time you get the drive system up and running, the track feeds for the bridge and then make it all work smoothly, the Walthers kept looking better and better.

Thanks guys.

I found that both  Faller roudhouse and  Atlas turntable have the same 15 degree...!!! So I could use them together !

I was thinking that the Atlas turntable can be motorized too... and I imagine that it must be far cheaper than the Walters ... or am I wrong ?

You can motorize the Atlas turntable and it does stop at each of the stalls with a creative gear mechanism. You need a second transformer/throttle to run it though.
