I am establishing a new line for my backyard layout and have a 300" run in a straight line and am trying to calculate maximum amount of rise i can accomodate at about 2% grade, is it appropriate to use scale inches (approx. 680 scale inches) to calculate the max rise or actual inches (300") and still be able to pull the grade without issues. Any help is appreciated..

Grade is grade whether in actual or scale measurements. a 1% grade is a rise of 1 inch in one hundred inches. So for a desired 2% grade over 300 inches that would be a 6 inch rise.

2% is 2% as I figure it. 2% of 680 scale in. is 13.6 scale in. rise. 2% rise in 300" is 6".
Equivalencing scale: 680/300=2.266 13.6/2.266 = 6.001 inches in 300 in.
Use actual inches when checking the grade, less likely you will make a mistake. Converting to scale is a unnecessary activity.
