Post by: agm1904 on December 14, 2010, 11:57:22 AM
I have a old 2 8 0 engine in need of a cab roof. It's a Bachmann n scale

agm,

As Rich wrote, you didn't say what brand or scale.  However, you may want to check out 'Precision Scale' as a source for parts.  Here's a sample of an entire replacement cab:

This is for HO.

Depending on how old it is - you might find a cab in the Bachmann parts list for the spectrum N 2-8-0.  If it is the older model based on the Reading 2-8-0 I would suggest using heavy cardstock or .005" or .010" shim stock (available at auto parts houses) to form a roof.  You can cut the brass shim stock with heavy sissors and attach it to the existing cab with ACC cement.  You might have to experiment a little but you can do an acceptable roof using shim stock and painting it.  If it is the Reading model the roof is red,  the SanteFe model  is black.

Jake's idea of building a new roof is a good one.  A third possible material would be .010 sheet styrene or even thicker.  With thicker material, you might want to sand/file the roof overhangs down to .010 to disguise the thickness.

Thanks for your in put. Guess I have no alternative but to make it myself. I had hope to get a original piece.

You might post N scale questions in the N scale forum as some may not look here.

A couple links from a Google search for:      make n scale 2-8-0 cab

You might try to search with Google, Yahoo or other search engine of your choice. Some search engines come up with different results at times. Sometimes I find the answer using Yahoo, sometimes Google.
