A Murphy roof is a roof that leaks only when company's over. :P

Seriously, a Murphy roof is a style of box car roof that uses metal panels joined at overlapping seams every few feet. This kept the panels together and made them watertight. "Murphy" was one of several similar styles of seam roofs, though all seem to be described as "Murphy" roofs. (Kind of like Kleenex is a generic term for facial tissues.)
