Title: Historic Era
Post by: wmsuggs on January 13, 2011, 12:11:08 PM
I got a 0-6-0 Union Pacific Locomotive with Slope tender for Christmas and I can't find what era this model was made or used. I would like to maybe build my layout and scenery for this era. It was the Pacific Flyer Prod. # 00692. Any help would be appriciated. I am so excited to get started as I am new to the hobby and want to take my time and do it right.

Thanks,

Wes

The time you would be modeling would be from about 1920 to 1940, or possibly to 1945, but this loco was only used as a switcher and did not run on the mainlines, so maybe buy a few turnouts and do some switching. Many will built by the government during WWI.

Union Pacific ran their 0-6-0 switchers until 1954, the first UP 0-6-0 switchers were built in 1901 by Baldwin

The Bachmann 0-6-0 switcher appears to be the USRA 0-6-0

The USRA switcher was developed in 1918. There were  10 allocated to the Union Pacific and were numbered 4600-4609. Many copies were made for Union Pacific after.
