Title: problem with spectrum 2-10-2
Post by: vinodkelbaikar on February 16, 2011, 04:13:38 PM
I just got my two spectrum 2-10-2 locomotives.
I have 18' and 22' radius tracks. One of the loco runs just fine on same track but other one always gets derailed.  Whenever it starts on track the body of loco looks like bends backwords causing front wheels to loose contact with track and when it moves back to original position, front wheels derail. Also the rear wheels loose contacts with track while passing through rail switchers. Can you please help me to resolve this issue as I have been trying to make it work for long time now.

The problem may be that the one loco's wheel base is more rigid. I don't think the rear and trailing trucks are spring loaded. You can add a bit of weight to the the lead and trailing trucks to keep them tracking well. Also make sure the wires going to the tender aren't causing a problem. If neither of these 2 things fix your problem them it is likely that your locos doesn't have a problem and that your problem is running it on 18" radius when it is better suited for 22" radius.

Bachmann locos have unique personalities. Some will operate on a given radius curve while others of the same type won't. No one seems to know why this is. But there are several things you can check: Are the wires between the loco and tender causing any interference on curves or switches? Do the pieces of wire hanging below the couplers clear all switch parts? Are all of the wheels in gauge? Do the wheels on the pilot and trailing trucks rotate freely?
