Title: What's next for Large Scale Thoams?
Post by: CFRailway on February 25, 2011, 05:56:20 PM
 ???
Hello all. I already own a large scale Thomas, Percy, Anne, Clarabel, Troublesome Trucks #1 & #2, Green coal wagons and I am waiting for a James & Thomas snow plough to become available. I think the range is great but does anyone know if there are plans to release more anytime soon and what they will be?
I am part of a team that runs the Charnwood Forest Garden Railway at Rothley Station on the Great Central, Leicester (England, UK), and the children love them. On children's events, as it is a large layout, the three locos are quite thin on the ground and others what really make the layout come to life in the children's minds!

Anyone who knows something I don't and would like to share it would be greatly appreciated!

For anyone interested here's our website: www.charnwoodforestrailway.webs.com  (http://www.charnwoodforestrailway.webs.com)

I have seen your site and videos and I am happy you are introducing G scale to young children. We need them in the hobby.

My guess, not confirmed, is possibly Toby, Edward, or Emily. Then maybe their coaches a van or a cattle car. Possibly a brakevan. This is my opinion based on the HO line and their releases.

the only thing that would be new (announced and released) for this year would be the oil tanker. there is no engine new for this year. things that were held back will be available soon: James, snowplow, fuel and milk tankers.

I know it will never happen but I'd love an LS Gordon. But realistically I'd love a LS Rosie, Toby, or Possibly Stanley.

Although I don't model in Large Scale, I agree 100% that there should be a breakvan.

My guess is that they're following the same order as the HO range, Henry and Gordon being next; and probably expecting a release date late this year or just next year.

Henry and Gordon could never make Bachmann's 4-ft curves, James most likely will have hard time clearing them, but he will, based on the Big Haulers. And since the sets are intended to run on Bachmann track as an easy set up for kids, they have a very very slim chance of being made.

I'd say Toby, Rosie, Diesel, Duck, or Stanley.

Toby, Edward, or Emily, engine wise of course!

I doubt Emily...Eward and Toby would be great though.

I'd say go for Rosie or Mavis then.

My guess is that Bachmann is producing the LS engines in the same order they did with the HO line (skipping any super large engines such as Gordon and Henry). So after James, I'm guessing Toby will come next, and then possibly Emily.

She'd be just a tad longer than James would be.

I can only see smaller characters, like Toby, Edward or Rosie becoming a reality though.

yeah. It'll be intresting seeing the reviews of large scale james see how he dose. I'm not sure if its just me but I think its kinda strange that all the large scale is based on the CGI series where as the ho range are based on the model series. I know bachmann wanna change all the tankers to CGI though.

It's probably just you.  ;)

Personally, I don't think it matters too much. What is important is that the models themselves look really good.  My 3 year old loves Percy and the troublesome trucks that came with that set.  I think a Thomas is in the future and perhaps a James, if they ever show up.

The LS trains are most likely CGI because CGI faces is what the kids see on TV now. LS was introduced while CGI was on TV, so that explains why HO is not CGI. It looks like Bachmann may be switched the HO rolling stock to CGI and might in the future change the engines to CGI.

I hope they don't start to change the engines in the HO range to the CGI versions. They are doing really well at the minute making them look model series accurite. I think that Both sets of twins are the best work that bachmann has done on a model. in comparason to when they first started with Thomas, Percy and James.

well they did that with the oil tanker so (which if i may add in, was, TERRIBLE, i mean it looked accurate, but i just painted over it to make the solid black color tanker because I COULDNT STAND IT! >:(), so... BE AFRIAD :o

Henry and Gordon, like I have stated many times, will not be made due to their size. They cannot make Bachmann's 4ft LS curves. James will most likely have a problem clearing them, comparing him to a Big Hauler. Emily, Toby, Edward, and any other smaller engine will most likely be next. The prices of Henry and Gordon will be too high as well and most parents would rather buy small engines that their kids can carry or pick up v.s. really big engines that weigh more than their kids. :P

If the Oil Tanker looks different now, how come Bachmann hasn't changed its product picture? Otherwise it could really confuse online customers.

That was because the LS models weren't complete at the time they put them up. But yeah, they should definitely put up pics of the actual LS models, now that they're finished.

Or they could have waitted and just added the picutres on when the had the product finished Like they did with donald and douglas. Instead of just sticking the HO models up there in the large scale products.
