Title: SanDiego Model Railroad - Balboa Park
Post by: Les on June 24, 2007, 09:38:42 PM
I just returned from a trip to San Diego and while there I visited the Model Railroad in Balboa Park.
Spectacular!!  There are 2 HO layouts, 1 N and 1 O; in additiion there is a 3 rail layout.  The City of San Diego furnishes the space for the exhibits and various clubs then set up and maintain the layouts.  The club members were very personable and glad to visit about their work.  If you get to San Diego do not pass up the opportunity to see what is billed as the "World's Biggest Modelo Railroad".   Les

What does it cost to see those layout?  At the state fair in New Mexico, they have a layout.  The fair provides the building, but the layout must be in operation when the fair is open.   The ticket sales more than pays for the building.  It would be nice to be able to have something like that.  Our local club folded because the membership got down to 2 or 3 people.

The admission price is $6.00 - well worth it!  A club member at one of the HO layouts said they have an 80 member club and 8 - 10 will show up for a weekly work night.
