Title: Photo Gallery
Post by: ThomasFan247 on March 13, 2011, 11:44:28 AM
Hey guys,
I thought that it would make things much easier if we had a gallery to post our pictures in instead of having to rummage through the Everything Thomas Thread to find pictures. If there are any pictures or photos that you want to share, as long as it has to do with Thomas as this is a Thomas and Friends board, you can post them here. I thought I'd start out with a few photos I took of my own custom characters that I hope to introduce into my series in the coming months once my layout is complete :)

Dan: Bachmann Western Maryland 2-8-0 Consolidation; compare him to Henry.

Kyle: Bachmann Erie USRA 0-6-0; compare him to Thomas.

Philip: IHC Western Maryland 2-10-2 Mountain Class; compare him to Gordon and Spencer.

Kyle will become a permanent Sodor engine once he's introduced. Dan and Philip will most likely just be visitors from America.

This is one of my favorite photos:

It's pretty obvious that I forgot to put the windmill's blades back in place :P

All of your engines are great, except phillip, who kinda scares me! His face is like indented in his head! LOL Anyways, nice work, and great idea of a photo gallery

Oh and any idea when you said your series will start? (sry I forgot when you told me)

So what will happen to the Layout Thread? Do you think we'll keep using it or will we just use this one, instead? Also, I took a picture just like that last one. I'd post it but I'm not allowed to use Photo Bucket, it being potentially dangerous considering what people might post pictures of. :P ::)

Well this thread says Photo Gallery so it can be pictures of your layout or pictures of engines or your customs...etc....

I really hope it happens. An actual TV series accurate layout of Sodor. It will be the most accurate since the TTTE modls were Gauge 1.

One day, I would really like to see it.

Ls is so much more fun. It is a lot bigger and that was it is more like a real railroad.

Maybe I can build a small set for LS...if not, I'll just have to wait till I move out of the house once I turn 22 (I'm hoping to stay home through college). 8 more years to go...yayy :P

I love those pictures ThomasFan247! My favourite is the James and the Toby one because they look like promo shots from the TV series. You have such a well done layout as well.

Post some pics of your layout in the layout thread. I'm interested to see the entirety of it. Three questions:

1. How did you manage/what is your method for such successful painting of the coupling hooks on Thomas, Percy, James, Henry, Gordon, and Toby? I am contemplating doing this myself.

2. How did you manage to paint James' smoke-box so neatly? I have had a go at it, but it doesn't look exactly right. Due to the faulty decals, I am also now without the black lining for James' wheel-arches as well (I'm looking into decal paper.).

3. What did you do for the rear coupling on Percy?! I'm sad that Bachmann didn't put it on there in the first place.

Some clarity would be great.

Much appreciated and happy modelling

Once my layout is complete, which I'm hoping to be done next weekend, I will have tons of pictures posted ;)

1. I took a very small amount of red acrylic paint on a paint brush and brushed it over the entire hook. I repeated this until there is a solid coat. Then I take another very small amount of paint, this time black, and paint it on the hook OR I use a black sharpie marker.

2. Back in 2009 I used a black sharpie to "paint" his smoke box and wheels. I masked the surrounding are with regular tape, but the tape was out of place and the line on one side of his smoke box is a little crooked :P

3. My 12 year old cousin stepped on my Annie when he was 8, so I had an old Annie chassis laying around. I used my Dremel (small hand-held saw) and cut the coupler off and super glued it onto his back foot plate. Then I painted it as I did with all my other engines.

Hope this helps! And I'll be glad to answer any questions! Also, thanks for all the comments everybody!! :D

Much appreciated, sir. Now I can have a go at the couplings once I get around to finishing up James. ::) I also noticed how you painted Annie and Clarabel's chassis-es black. That is next on my list as well. As for the hint of more pictures to come, I can't wait. Some layout pics would be nice. You seem to have a good hand at scenery.

The signal was from a Tomy/Tomica Thomas set. I don't remember what it was called, but it was the one that included Thomas, Percy, black Troublesome Trucks, Elizabeth, Elsbridge station with the working crossing, and the station that made Caroline swivel when the tracks were set to 'Stop.'

I found my camera  ;D It was hidden under a piece of styrofoam in a cardboard box (well, who was stupid enough to put that there?  ::)) I took some quick shots of the layout. I know some of them are a little blurry, but I didn't have time to setup my tripod for every single shot. I'll have some better pics in the future, but this is what I have for now. Enjoy :)

I had no idea that you had a quarry. Was this recent?

I like it overall. Not too complex, but still looks good all the same.  ;) So is this 4 feet by 8 feet?

@thomasfan247 Great pics.! Love the Quarry! Thank you for sharing but I have three questions. What is that wall thing George is next to and are you planning to do anything with the extra track lines on your turntable that dont have stalls? What is that tunnel entrance doing at the quarry in the second to last pic?

Nope. The quarry tracks were laid at the same time the rest of the layout's track was. I decided to save it to finish for last because of all the work it required to finish :P And no, it's 5x10 ;)

The "wall thing" is made up of two Atlas roundhouse end walls. I decided to put them in there just to give a little bit of variety. At the moment I don't plan on doing anything with the extra turntable lines. The tunnel entrance in the quarry is actually a bridge from Bachmann's Harry Potter set, which is now discontinued. I decided to put it in there so that road traffic can enter and leave the quarry ;)

I don't have any other trees at the moment, and, since the trees would up a little higher than everything else, I figured it'd be in some way logical to have snow covered trees up there ;)

For something to "Snowball" means that as it goes along it picks up more and more into it, like a snowball getting larger as it rolls on snow-covered ground.

ohhhh. i get it now.

oh, and as long as my layout has the lake track, my layout won't be a snow layout, and it will be featured in my first video once i get a youtube account.

looks great so far! where did you get the crane from? i've been looking for more cranes for Brendam but can find any besides the model power one, which i plan on getting once my third line is up. i like the picture with Duck over the canal.

I got that on Ebay. It was made by Ertl in their thomas range. Yeah I like the pic of Duck too. Can't wait to get more stuff to add onto the layout

I'm not trying to be a bother, but please can we not quote posts that contain several pictures? It just clogs up the thread. Instead could we possibly say, "@Mulfred: Nice pictures. Keep up the good work." That way we don't have to constantly scroll to get to the next post.
