Post by: ken black on March 16, 2011, 01:59:04 PM
Hi I have a heavy mountain 4-8-2. The side rods will not stay in place the pins keep comming out of there plastic holes. Is this a problem I can fix? I do not want to send it back because iI was told they would not fix it but would replace it .

Use a tiny drop of ACC on a toothpick and I mean, tiny.
I have use a tiny drop of blue loctite, a thread locker as being a mechanic, I have a bottle of the stuff. It is a temporary type thread locker. The red is permanent.
All you need is a "film" of the stuff.

I have successfully used loctite on older locomotives:  Varney, Bowser, Mantua and the like.  Never had to use it on a modern locomotive.  Doesn't take much.  You don't want the goo to leak out onto the eccentric crank or other moving parts.

Jonathan
