Title: changing couplers
Post by: jsdranger on May 04, 2011, 11:11:34 AM
how does one go about changing horn hook couplers to the standard couplers on most bachmann trains?  I just purchased a ENGINE SANTA FE GP-38 LOCOMOTIVE MODEL and it came with horn couplers

is this an easy change or should a seasoned professional work on this?

thanks

Who made the locomotive and what type of coupler pockets does it have, and are the couplers body or truck mounted? It could be an easy swap or it could be a more difficult swap, but I can't tell you what to do without more info.

You should be able to swap them out with EZ-Mate Mk-II's, Kadee #5's, or #148 couplers.

If the couplers are mounted to a bracket that plugs into the metal chassis, it's easiest to removed the entire bracket before popping the coupler cover off and removing the horn-hook. If the coupler box is part of the chassis, there will either be a plastic pin or small screw holding the cover on. Remove it, remove the cover, swap out the coupler and replace the cover.

Simple.
