Title: Walschaerts Valve gear removal from 4-6-0
Post by: Model Tug on May 12, 2011, 12:28:31 AM
Have an "Annie" 4-6-0 with Walschaerts valve gear that I need to remove in order to modify the chassis
Are the steam cylinders glued together so that the rear part will not come apart?
How do i proceed?

Rod,

The rear part of the cylinder bracket is mounted to a metal cylinder inserted into the plastic housing.  It can be removed, carefully, but forcefully.  Perhaps removing the front cap will make easier removal.

Interesting, how this facilitates your mod?

I removed the Walschaerts valve from both of my Bumblebee Annies. It is my opnion that the eccentric is not advanced enough on the main driver to provide adequate value motion. I cannot see any easy way to change this so I removed it!
