Title: 3 Axle Diesel
Post by: YellowHillsCentral on June 10, 2011, 01:39:19 PM
Hello everyone,

I was curious as to what the smallest three axle diesel made in HO is that I could use on my railroad for switching and roadwork. It's a modern class 3 shortline/ tourist railroad. (not that that matters any) Thanks for the help!

The Bachmann Plmyouth only has three axles and is really small.

ACY-

I could certainly be mistaken, but I think he means
three axles per truck since he is also thinking of taking
it out on his mainline.

The Spectrum 44 ton is a four axle diesel but sort of small. The 70 ton is nice also.

2 axles? sort of a diesel 0-4-0? try the roundhouse EMD model 40.

The question that begs asking. How many TOTAL axles do you want on the locomotive?
A two axle is a very small boxcab loco.

My apologies all, forget my last message. I wrote it while at work when my mind was going a hundred different ways. I am looking for a small road/switching diesel with two trucks that have three axles each. Like a SD-50 but smaller. Hope that clarifies my question.

smaller 6 axle diesels that would work are the alco rsd4/rsd5, fm train master or emd sd7, sd9 or sd35. these are only slightly larger than their 4 axle brothers, all are about the length pf a gp40 or shorter, and should be able to run on 18" r curves.

Thanks! The SD35 is exactly what I'm looking for!
