Title: Oregon Lumber Co.
Post by: glennk28 on July 02, 2011, 08:18:10 PM
Many of Bachmann's  "Logging type" locomotives--geared lokies, mallets, etc--come lettered for the "Oregon Lumber Co."--was this an actual company, or just a name that Bachmann  thought up as sounding good?

Thanks--gj

Yes there was and is an Oregon Lumber Co.  I do not know if they are the same company or not.

Hi, Glenn!
I have found prototype photos, but I don't know of any specific books.
Are you coming to Sacramento?
Best,
the Bach-man

Hi--Lee Snover was asking me about the OL Company--I'm in the border area--but don't have any books I can lay my hands on--

nfortunately I had to cancel on Sacramento--it's only 4 hours drive--but my brother picked that week to come visit from Connecticut--he has to go thru a lot of our mother's archives--which when he takes stuff back to CT will leave more room for trains--

Somewhere on the Coast....  I remember seeing a Depot on HWY 1,  in Oregon, (or northern CA) that had a good display and a lot of info on the Logging industry.  I know that does not help a lot, but it is a  start.....

You obviously have not looked for the right source

Shay website shows the following Shay Locomotives By # built for the Oregon Lumber CO

The Shay ownership by # does not indicate the first owner, just that the engine was at one time owned by the Oregon Lumber.

1892   Oregon Lumber Co. ( Mount Hood RR), #2, Hood River, OR
1884   Oregon Lumber Co. (Sumpter Valley Railway), #101, Bates, OR
1885   Oregon Lumber Co. (Sumpter Valley Railway), #102, Bates, OR
951    Oregon Lumber Co., #1 BUD, Chenoweth OR; later to Hood River, OR
226    Oregon Lumber Co., #1, Baker, OR
3345   Oregon Lumber Co., #107 [lettered #7], Baker, OR
1983   Oregon Lumber Co., #1II ยป #103, Baker, OR

Note a lot of the locomotives have pictures attached.

http://www.climaxlocomotives.com/owner/owners/?O=O

The Climax site shows Oregon Lumber had a number of these as well

Heisler locomotive ownership is not as easy to search. There are several books that have the ownership data, but no info on the web yet.
