My GG1 runs well, but the TB-2 went out. what would cause the TB to die?

A myriad of things, but a few quick ones come to mind.
First, do you have another TB2 loco to check that it isn't your bell button or transformer controls that are bad?
Broken internal wire,
Voltage spike on the track,
Cold solder joint on circuit board.
