Title: Repainting a caboose
Post by: jettrainfan on August 08, 2011, 06:58:11 PM
Not an everyday experience but 2 guys and a couple of the juniors from the CV&WS, including myself, are starting to repaint the Pennsylvania Railroad Caboose that the club owns. The plan is to work on it during the weekends and hopefully get it done by early September. It's something that isn't really documented but i figured people would be interested so i'll be posting a progress report weekly. So far, north and south side of the caboose are ready to be sanded.

jtf-

Just one word: Preparation. You need to remove all rust and sand everything to clean, level surface. Prime all bare metal or wood. Put your final coat on thinly and give the boose a second thin coat when the first one is dry. That's a lot of work but solid preparation will give you a great looking paint job which will last a long, long time. Consider the use of Teflon bearing paint if graffiti is a problem. Good luck with this big job.
