Title: anyone try silk plant cleaner on layout?
Post by: Albert in N on October 15, 2011, 09:33:22 PM
My N layout has Bachmann SceneScapes as well as Woodland Scenics trees.  These look great but are hard to dust.  Yes, I use soft brushes and vacuum.  While shopping with my wife in Hobby Lobby, I noted spray Silk Plant Cleaner.  It appears to be mostly water and alcohol.  Before buying a can and trying it on my layout scenery, I ask if anyone else has tried it.  Sure you would need to shield trains and buildings and wipe track afterwards, but if it works it would be worth it.  Most of my trees can be lifted and sprayed outdoors.  Would it damage SceneScapes trees?

since alcohol is one of the solvents commonly used to clean track, i don't think you'd need to worry about wiping your track.the main thing i'd worry about is if it would discolour your trees and buildings.

Good point, but I think that any discoloration would be in the direction of toning
down the color, which might be quite desirable.
