Title: Restoring N-scale SD40
Post by: JumboH on July 12, 2007, 09:41:49 PM
To Bach Man - Help wanted. Have started to restore what I suspect is a SD40 which I somehow inherited. The motor has been removed, cleaned and tested and runs OK. In cleaning out the slot in the main chassis, there was a lot of coagulated grease mixed up with bits of plastic indicating a heavy hand with the oil or grease at some stage of its life. Any ideas what the plastic might be from? I am about to track and clean up the current path from the bogies and indications are that this is a very old locomotive wearing UP livery. Can you tell me if there is a Bachmann agent here in New Zealand please.
Regards from Kiwi. JumboH

Dear Jumbo,
It's likely the plastic is from gear wear. I don't have a list of Kiwi dealers.
Sorry!
