Title: 2-6-6-2 loco
Post by: Ronchatt on December 29, 2011, 12:00:14 AM
I am in the process of converting the 2-6-6-2 articulated loco to battery power.  In the front end of the boiler behind the smoke unit is a solid steel  post labelled on the parts diagram as part # MTG73 what is it ?, what does it do ?, can I remove it ?, as it is only held on by one screw

When the 2-6-6-2 was first introduced the question of the purpose of MTG73 was ask here on this board.

For the life of me I can't remember what that answer was. It may have had something to do with supporting the front of the boiler/smoke box, but that's just a guess.

The Bachmann or some other board member should be able to give you the correct answer.  Maybe Kevin will be able to answer your question.

Thanks JD. I thought I would ask the question before doing a search.  having just done a search the answer seems to be. It does nothing!

i was the one who asked, never really got an answer.
i just took it out, it was in my way.
i put a small fan in there to cool my airwire parts, there is not a lot of air space to cool things off with south Ga. summer temps.

Thanks for that Willis. The steel post has gone. I hadn't thought of a fan, but as I am getting rid of the smoke unit it should fit in there quite well and use the smoke unit wiring to power it. My problem is I want to use a visaton speaker which is 32mm high I am looking for a shoe horn to try to prise it in.
