Title: Amtrak, southern US
Post by: phillyreading on January 10, 2012, 12:32:25 PM
I was on Amtrak the other day and asked a question about passenger service from Jacksonville FL to parts of Missippi, was told that the Amtrak stations were severely damaged and not repaired in order to provide passenger service.
The tracks are completely repaired and railroad bridges replaced in the New Orleans area, but Amtrak has to rebuild their buildings. It could be a few years before Amtrak has service between Jacksonville and Tallahassee FL.

Lee-

The Norfolk Southern was probably better prepared for hurricane Katrina than any other organization or person. They had stockpiled supplies and made plans to get crowds of workers to their damaged rights-of-way as soon as possible. They set a terrific example for all of the companies and governmental units which so completely bungled their response.
