Title: Where to find this?
Post by: TrainLegend150 on April 08, 2012, 01:02:52 AM
Does anyone here know where to find a model train version of the Reading and Northern 4-6-2 Pacific #425? I've been looking everywhere and I can't find one! Can somebody help me?

What scale are you looking for? H.O. or O gauge.

You may have to buy a pacific engine that meets your needs and re-stencil it for the Reading & Northern or Blue Mountain & Reading. That engine is not currently produced by any major company that I know of.
Reading Company and Reading Lines is very difficult to find items for, however MTH(Mike's Train House) makes some Reading Lines items in O gauge. In O gauge; Lionel made a couple of cabooses for Reading Lines, Williams makes an N5c caboose for Reading Lines.

Or try Reading Company Technical and Historical Society for more info to see if anybody makes a model that you might want.

The R&N 425 was originally built for the Mobile and Northern RR (later the Gulf, Mobile and Northern) back in the 1920's if memory serves.  It is not an ex-Reading loco.  She is a medium Pacific, and not a USRA copy.  I know of no models ever made of this loco either in plastic or brass.  I'd like for Bachmann to consider a loco such as this, to be different from all the USRA's, Pennsys, B&O's and other locos that have been done many times before.

I know that the # 425 was not originally a Reading engine, so that is why I mention trying to find a pacific engine and re-stencilling for the Reading & Northern.
Maybe someone like Hobby Lobby or Hobby Town would have that engine in H.O.
