Title: Photo of Ice Cream Wagon posted
Post by: InsideTrack on May 22, 2012, 02:58:58 PM
Bachmann has posted a photo of the new HO Ice Cream Wagon (Item No. 77021).   :) :) :)
It isn't in stock yet. Probably won't be until the end of August.

Yes! It's not a repaint of a ventilated van! I will order some and paint them brown.  :) Thanks Bachmann!

Don't know, but I hope there will be soon. As for the Ice Cream Wagon, I thought that it was going to be something like a few of those faceless trucks, but I think they should have called this a "Ice Cream Van" instead.

I like it! You did good Bachmann.

  Oh and Caleb,

It is the same van. It's just repaired and logoed.

No, Caleb is right. It is a different van model.

Nope, I am right. Its the same, take a look.

The only difference in design is it takes a different top, and the door is slightly different.

The van model is of the same prototype of the Ventilated van.

Even all the details underneath the body are exactly the same.

They pretty much use that chassis for all 4-wheeled rolling stock.  :P The front of the van is different. Many vans on the GWR and NWR do look similar, but comparing the vent van and Ice cream van, they are different. A different top, door, and front makes it not a repaint of the ventilated van.  ;)

Well, to be down to the wire, it isn't a repaint alone, but the detail that was added to the ice cream wagon was from the same Design of the Vent. Van.

Some of it was, but I still consider it a new tooling.  :-\

Huh, if only they posted a picture of Duck, too at the same time... that would've been better. >:(

Are they still deciding on the face?

Without the icecream picture, it would be a pretty nice looking vent. van  ::)

SA, it's a different tooling. Most of the detailing on the ice cream van is completely different, especially when comparing the fronts of the vans. There is only one hatch rather than two, and only the horizontal grooves are present. The roof on the ice cream van isn't as curved, and the roof has details rather than being smooth.

The two vans are of different prototypes. The ice cream van is a repaint of Bachmann Branchline's 12 Ton Planked Ventilated Van:

While the ventilated van is a repaint of the 12 Ton Ventilated Van:

*EDIT: If you can't see the picture, right click the icon and click "Open in New Tab" or "Open in New Window," etc, etc.

If we want to get really technical, the TV series used a different prototype for the Ice Cream Vans:
Which Bachmann UK makes:

The type of vent van used for the Ice Cream Van by Bachmann is this:

The likely reason is that the accurate van seen above is a new tooling introduced last year, while the Ice Cream Van is re-using an ex-Mainline tooling from the 70s-80s.

Who knows? But we'll get a picture of Duck some time in the future.  :)

As far as I know, there was never an ice cream van with bogies on the show, and as Bachmann produces TVS accurate products, one with bogies wouldn't be made.

The closest thing is this:
Which was used as a Refrigerator Van by Trackmaster.

And it's odd that Trackmaster classified it as a refrigerator van, because Flynn's hose was supposedly transported in that van, correct?

Doesn't really matter if Hornby made it because it's still not easily available to the entire US. It's like saying Bachmann wouldn't need to make Oliver or Stepney because Hornby has.
