Title: kitbash 2-6-6-2
Post by: traingeek on August 18, 2012, 01:13:54 PM
Hi,  Has anyone broken up the running gear of the 2-6-6-2 to make a six coupled engine ?   I am considering it, and if someone can give me  driver size,  and height of motor from boiler bottom as well as width, I would be most appreciative.  Also how is the mechanism laid out, one motor or two ?  Thanks,  Dave

You can start right in the loco diagram. I just did.

Also, found these specs in a Google search.
Wheel diameter 16.8mm 21/32"

Wheelbase of one engine 39mm 1 and11/32"

Center of lead truck to center of rear truck engine 7"

Overall length to end of coupler 13"

Front engine truck wheel to rear tender truck wheel (minimum turntable length) 11 7/8"

I am sure some here will have specs.

Thanx Rich, I wanted to get info before buying, so this is a help. Thinking of taking an old brass On2 SR&RL prairie  and using the 2-6-6-2 mechanism under it.  I am afraid the On2 boiler will be too small to fit the motor, so if anyone knows the boiler diameter of the mallet, I would love the info.
