Title: Are Bachmann New Oncard Wheels Insulated?
Post by: Colormepearl on October 22, 2012, 12:07:45 AM
I was going to order online, but need to know first; Are the left and right wheel, on each axel, insulated from each other? Is there any continuity between the left and right wheel? I need metal wheels to use with track power brush power pick-up. No one selling knows the answer.
Thanks, Ron

The Bachmann metal wheels are insulated from each other by a plastic axle.  ;)

Dear All,

As JZ stated, the metal wheels are insulated from each other.

As near as I can tell, though, a smaller diameter metal axle runs down the middle of the black plastic (tube) axle,

which the metal wheels are pressed on to.

There seems to be a mid-axle split in the plastic tube.

It may be that the plastic tube is in two pieces, left and right, which are pressed on over a single full width metal axle.

Item # 92421, G Scale 31.00mm Larger Metal Wheel Set, (4/Card)

Hope this helps.

Sincerely,

Let me be more definitive for you.

Each wheel has a insulated center through which a standard Bachmann axle is pressed on (2.97 - 3.0 mm).

The spacers between the wheels (2) maintain a near perfect 1.575" back-to-back spacing.

Perfect for track pick up from the backs of the wheels.
