Title: On30 porter question
Post by: WittmanStudios on December 01, 2012, 12:34:34 AM
Hello,

I just want to ask a question about the porter locomotive with sound.

Is there a way that I can control the sound without the use of DCC. I like the sound that comes out but I just want to control what sound I would like to make, I do not plan on converting to DCC.

Thank you,

Alex

Dear Alex,
You really need DCC to get the most out of the sound system.
Have fun!

Hi Alex,

You could try an MRC "Black Box" or Tech 6 controller <http://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/500-1200 (http://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/500-1200)>, but if you are going to spend that much $$$, why not spend just a bit more and get an entry level DCC system from NCE (Power Cab), MRC (Prodigy Express), Bachmann (EZ Command), or Digitrax (Zephyr Extra)? You also could try a BLI DC Master used in conjunction with a standard power pack (currently on sale for about $35 but o/s at Walthers dot com <http://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/187-1011 (http://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/187-1011)>), but you'd need to check with both BLI and Soundtraxx first to see if it will work, and it won't give you control of all functions, only some.
