Title: Thomas & Friends in 2013
Post by: seanrail on December 02, 2012, 10:16:36 AM
What would you like Bachmann to make for Thomas & Friends for 2013?

here are some ideas on my wish list

HO

Locomotives: Oliver, Rosie, Whiff, Stanley, Hiro and Victor.

Rolling Stock: Toad, Rocky, Hector, more troublesome trucks, re-released tar tanker and well wagon and Flying Kipper Van.

Vehicles: Trevor, Bulgy, George and Kevin.

Figures: Alicia Botti, The mayor of Sodor, Lady Hatt and Farmer Trotter

Buildings: Sodor Steamworks, motorized watermill and town hall

Of those choices, I'd love to see Oliver, Toad, more Troublesome Trucks, and George.

There are a number of wishlist threads already..

Town Hall sounds like a nice idea. It's seen often in the new series and would be a simple building to make, in shape at least.

I've got no doubt that Oliver will join the Bachmann fleet, and Toad with him. Out of the new characters I don't see Whiff and Victor joining, however cool they may look. Victor's been proven to be narrow gauge, and the range is HO, and Whiff.. I just can't see him happening. More likely Stanley and Rosie, in my opinion.

Out of curiosity, which 'Flying Kipper Van' are you referring to? There are many.
Like the big, boxy vans in Season 4's "Fish" added to the end of the train, the mail-van like wagons but with only 4 wheels.. there's a bunch.

I could also see Trevor joining, or perhaps Bulgy. I'd love to see George, but with all the little details on him I'm not sure that would be possible(remembering the range is aimed at younger children just getting in to HO modelling) :/

Also, after seeing the Robot Chicken Thomas episode, I'd love to see a Mayor of Sodor made as well :D

Got a bunch of good ideas on there, nice. :)

I don't think that's stopped Bachmann before. I mean, they have a Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad set. It's based on a narrow gauge line in Colorado, but the set is made to standard HO. Just saying :)

Boco
Daisy
Spiteful Brake Van
Trevor

That would complete the Season 2 characters (Not including people) and that would make me very happy :D

I must say, as much as i like the look of the cgi characters I would rather have classic characters. Like Stepney, BoCo, & Daisy. But I really wish they'd make arry and bert, the same way that SacredWolfe made his AWESOME MODELS!!!

Whatever characters get announced next year, I'd be happy as long as they are at least one or more of the following:

•Daisy
•Oliver
•Stepney
•'Arry and Bert
•BoCo

That's my opinion. These characters can complete the season 2-5 line of characters, excluding Class 40 and Derek. Class 40 would only remake Bowled Out. Derek would only remake Double Teething Troubles.  :P

I'm not really sure about Daisy, because her buffer beam is really low.

I would honestly be more than happy if we got Oliver as our only engine next year.  I feel like Bachmann could add some more variety to their rolling stock this year.  Same could also be said for non-rail characters.
This is what I feel like Bachmann should do for next year to keep things classic:
Oliver - Biggest demand in terms of engines, plus he'd complete classic characters 1-11.  I'd normally suggest another engine, but considering we already have Duck on the way for 2013, I feel like just one engine would do justice for 2013.
Toad - Bachmann has the right tooling from their UK mainline range, plus he'd go along great with Oliver.  He'd be a hard one for Bachmann to dodge!
Red coaches (composite and brake sold seperately) - The red coaches have been in demand for a long time, probably the largest demand when it comes to rolling stock, outside of Toad.  They have plenty of potential and would be an appropriate addition to go along with Duck and Oliver.
Trevor - I've always wanted Bachmann to do Trevor, and I have a feeling that we may not have to wait any longer for him!
Bulgy (chances I think for this one are 50/50) - This one I really wasn't so sure about until recently with a conversation I had with a friend the other day.  I think he's iconic enough to be made for a Bachmann model.  He is also another logical addition to go along with Duck and Oliver!

I'd pretty much go with ModelTrainFans list, but instead of Bulgy, have the Scrap Cars/Plant Cars:

Everyone's ideas are spot on. If we come out of next year with both Great Western engines and the red coaches for them to pull, that's all I can ask.

I concur. They're versatile, they've been seen in both the classic model series and the new CGI series, and their colour is rather attractive.

I wouldn't mind Bulgy, but if given the option I'd much prefer these.

Admittedly I wouldn't mind that addition over Bulgy myself.  Bulgy was sort of a surprise when others mentioned it, and I myself wouldn't mind him being introduced into the range.  But the plant/scrap car really would be a nice addition for the range overall.  Though I am glad everyone has a mutual agreement on everything else I mentioned too.  Hopefully it will become a reality someday. :)

Trevor
BoCo perhaps?

Hopefully these guys will be picked for next year!

Hmm... I wonder if it's possible to have Arry and Bert into the range as well also for one of the announcements? If one thinks about it, that'll surely complete the Season 5 line of characters, at least for steam/diesel characters plus the sheer fact they can recycle Diesel's moulding too, albeit with modifications of course. Finally, to top things off, they'll also be a third set of twins to be in the range as well! That'll spell out double trouble! XD

I understand where everyone is coming from, but realistically speaking, an appearance is an appearance.  It'd be like saying Butch was introduced in season 15, when he too was introduced in season 5.  Plus Derek's name wasn't mentioned at all in Double Teething Troubles, for whatever reason. ::)  Despite that, he also counts as a character who was introduced in season 5.  Season 5 was very poor when it came to introducing characters.  Some were never used past that season, and a number didn't even make it past their introductory episode.  The only season 5 characters that seemed to carry on after that season were Cranky, 'Arry, Bert, and recently Butch.  Considering how those last three were introduced that season, it really is surprising!

Before this conversation goes any further, let's try to get back on topic.

Outside of completing the cast of the first five seasons, who would you like to see produced from the newer series?

I'd like Rosie, Stanley and Whiff myself and I think that's a pretty standard set of "tolerable" characters from the new series.  ::)

Anyone got any other characters to add?
Title: Re: Thomas & Friends in 2013

Well I collect series 1-4, and there are very little exceptions I would make outside of that. :P

However there are some new engines that I would like to see Bachmann do too.

Arthur - His episodes in season 7 were great ones and I just find him to be a very likable character.  If Bachmann were to pick a character from season 6-7 I say Arthur would be the most logical.

Stanley - Out of the three engines mentioned earlier, I think Stanley would be the best choice.  Lots of fans want to see Stanley, and I can see why.  Hornby brought in great waterton buildings (including Stanley's shed), but no Stanley model, so a Bachmann Stanley can fill that gap in for Thomas modelers.  Plus, he seems to have a very likable personality and is also popular with fans.  Plus despite him appearing in full CGI, I can see Bachmann giving Stanley a model era face, just because of how iconic Stanley is for The Great Discovery.

Hiro - This is another one of the newer characters I could see Bachmann making a beautiful model of.  He's popular amongst older and newer fans alike.  Plus, I loved Hero of the Rails!

Rosie, Arthur, Hiro, Stanley (maybe), Hector (I have a soft spot for the guy) and not recent but still noticeable, Bulstrode.

I very nearly included Arthur in my own list, but I decided against it as the competitors, who usually use existing tooling for their Thomas models, already have the tooling ready to go for his class. Same goes for Neville.

I could see Bachmann doing Stanley very well. I agree about the model-era face, though if he was done with the CG face it wouldn't be a big problem- the faces between the two series look very alike.

I would think Bachmann would get on making this guy- there is already a O scale(I think) version of the tank engine, or one of his prototypes, and that looks to be doing well. Imagine how popular the model would be in the more commonly modeled OO scale!

Also... I really like him :D

The reason I included him was because of the combination of Cranky The Crane and Bulstrode The Barge, many ranges have picked up on the combination, and I wouldn't mind dumping some runaway trucks into him ;) .
And George is an alright idea :) "...Railways are no good. Turn them into Roads" George in a nutshell  :D.

You are right in saying that Cranky and Bulstrode (and indeed Salty) are often lumped together, however it is inaccurate to do so. In the TV Series canon, Bulstrode is abandoned on a beach seven years before Cranky arrives on the Island.  ::)

Well, S.C.Ruffey had one technical appearance too (not counting his Season 5 appearances since his name was painted out and was caught up in that explosion in Put Upon Percy), yet he received not only an HO model, but a Large Scale model as well. So it's very possible for certain one off's to appear at all (at least of the classic eras).

S.C Ruffey was only made just because Bachmann already had the tooling that was used for the troublesome trucks and other wagons in the range.  It's the exact same reason why other model brands have made S.C. Ruffey, including the large scale range.  He was made by each of those ranges for some extra money just because he's so easy for them to do and nothing more.

Though I must admit at this point with Duck, Donald, and Douglas out with S.C. Ruffey in the HO range, it's more of a reason for Bachmann to make Oliver and Toad if you ask me.

Yep, I can just picture people making remakes of 'Toad Stands By' on YouTube... Plus it'll be great for the people (like me) who haven't bought the Hornby Oliver and Toad that were retired (if they announce them that is)... :P

On that note, I wonder if any other one off character (not the HiT one offs in the 'new series') could have the potential to appear in the range (like Old Slow Coach, Fergus, Madge, etc., the kind to appear for a number of episodes in one season, but never appear again in later seasons)... Depends really if it's achievable for certain characters like Fergus, who's a little too small to have any fancy mechanisms be able to fit inside him.

I'm slightly worried for the 2013 range as I believe we might not get anything in ho or maybe just an engine and a rolling stock as the reliese of cugginton range might over shadow poor thomas. I really hope I'm wrong and I agree with everyone else Oliver next ho engine and toad the brakevan or red branchline coaches for rolling stock also the fat controllers car might be a nice little addtion. It is used in the series a lot even now in CGI era.

Large scale I'm hoping toby or edward. But I am really not sure. Think we'll get something in one scale but dunno which

Plus they've been around for over 10 years, so like what thomasj219 said, they won't be in any danger, besides, after what occurred in terms of the rights for the series (back in February I think), they'll be sticking around for the next coming years to make our layouts even more enjoyable! ;)

You are right in saying that Cranky and Bulstrode (and indeed Salty) are often lumped together, however it is inaccurate to do so. In the TV Series canon, Bulstrode is abandoned on a beach seven years before Cranky arrives on the Island.  ::)
Yeah but you can make the layout how you want to ;) .

Chuggington range ???

Sadly yeah :(

since when was a Chugginton range announced?  ???
It was at iHobby....it's a few pages back I think. What month was that...?
The Ihobby show was in October

Thomas range will not be discontinued because of how well it does with little kids and us older fans. if we keep buying the Bachmann thomas range it will always be around.

Title: Re: Thomas & Friends in 2013
Post by: Anthony P2 on December 21, 2012, 02:23:34 PM
Not any time soon. If enough people say they want Diesel 10 or Flying Scotsman then they might. Even though Flying Scotsman is a Railway series character, Bachmann could make him if we say we wanted him. For example, for a while we wanted Duck and now we are getting Duck.

I'd love to see oliver, arthur, stanley or fergus.

Realistically, only oliver or stanley are likely.

I don't think they'll ever make fergus, a one off character who would be really hard to make. :(

Oliver would make sense, but I've already gotten the "red menace" version, so I don't really care. :P

I'd love to see stanley, and they could re-use the wheelset of thomas.
Title: Re: Thomas & Friends in 2013
Post by: Cirkit:) on December 22, 2012, 12:13:41 PM
Even though the wheels are similar, Bachmann would most likely use a new tooling for Stanley's motor and wheels.

I could see Oliver, for those who do not own the 'red box' Oliver, or want a more TV-Series looking engine. Toad naturally would have to come along with him.

As for Fergus.. you're right. His size would be impossible to put an eye-mechanism in, there would be too many 'small parts' (hazard for young children), and he hasn't been seen past season 7, so there really isn't much of a point making Fergus.

Perhaps Bachmann should focus on the classics, or the likes of Stanley and Rosie, Two I could see being very popular in the future..

We need to just forget about them making Fergus, and the Narrow Gauge engines. It's highly unlikely to ever happen. Especially Dash and Bash, who have an extremely fragile chassis, and are impossible for Bachmann to make. Classic characters are the most likely to be made.

Title: Re: Thomas & Friends in 2013
Post by: Cirkit:) on January 03, 2013, 11:02:02 PM
I don't think characters like Stafford or Charlie will appear in the range any time soon, because of their lack of appearances (Stafford's case), and character popularity.

If, however, someone wanted to make an HO compatible Stafford, one could take a Bachmann 'Gandy Dancer' chassis and use it with a Take-N-Play Stafford(which is an excellently detailed die-cast and plastic toy)...!

If, given the choice, I were to choose any two engines to appear next, I'd now probably say BoCo, given how well Bachmann has done D&D, Duck, Bill and Ben, etc., and the fact that he is my favorite diesel, or perhaps Stanley. Bright, shiny, an eye-catching engine and certainly a unique member of the team.

I'd really like it if Rosie were to appear in the range, bet Bachmann would do fantastic work with her, as they have with others. I see it likely that Arry and Bert would appear some time in the future as well, and I wouldn't mind having them around my (future) layout's yard..

I said it many times before, but that bogied tree-truck is one I'd really like to see happen. The Works Coach is appearing more and more too, would like to see that happen.

Also wouldn't mind seeing a generic lorry, like the Horrid Lorries but without a face, or Trevor appear in the range any time soon.

I wonder, if we got any more figurines in the future, who would come next? Alicia Botti, or the Mayor perhaps? Something to think about.

What we want and what we get our two different things...........

I have to admit Oliver does seem the likely route to go but I have a hunch we may be surprised. I'm thinking that Arry and Bert could be on the cards for next year, or maybe even Rosie.
Rolling stock-wise I'm all for the red coaches. If Bachmann didn't make those they're missing another sure-fire success....

That said, it would be wonderful if Bachmann took a step down the classic route and produced Boco- ok he's not been seen for years but then Duck and the Scottish twins hand't either, and they I feel only came back briefly because they wanted to clear a shelf before they put them into deep storage. (I reckon Boco was packed up or dismantled years before...)

We shall have to wait and see, but not long until we find out I hope- then there's the matter of waiting for the models release........

How about DCC/sound equipped or ready locos with the old snap on (not glued) cab roofs for easy access?
DCC is way easier for the young to operate and all kids want to run 2 locos together.

if they put DCC and or DCC Sound in the locos, they would be WAY too expensive! maybe if they put in a DCC socket in the locos then they would be a hole lot easier to convert to DCC.

They are not that hard now due to their very simple wiring.  It's kind of hard to fit the chip in the body of the locomotive though.

Lady and Diesel 10 won't be made anytime soon. Splatter and Dodge may also really not get made. Even if Bachmann were to make Splatter and Dodge, the only reason is because they have the tooling for them, Diesel's body and chassis. We know that 'Arry and Bert are far more likely than them, because at least THEY weren't one-off characters.
Title: Re: Thomas & Friends in 2013
Post by: flyingtardis on January 18, 2013, 11:10:32 PM
the only things i wish to see that would be the most likely are:

Diesel 20 (branchline have a class 42 warship)
Oliver(branchline has a 14xx tank)
Splatter
Dodge
Arry
Bert(all of them are 08 shunters  which can either be modified from diesel or taken from the branchline tooling)
Boco (branchline do a Co-Bo metrovick)
Daisy(branchline do the correct DMU)
The Old Express Coaches(just repaint Annie or clarabel and then the other 2 coaches will need a new tooling which goes the same for the red coaches)
the red coaches
old shape Henry(just put Gordon's boiler on Henry's running board)
Better Express Coaches (base them on the Si3d series one coaches at Least guys)
series 1 truck (just a standard truck with stickers instead of 3d faces)
MOAR Brakevans
a choice between different liveries on rolling stock in case we want Sodor mail written on the side of our Sodor mail coaches

unlikely/completely new moulds:

Lady
breakdown train
Diesel re-model as he looks too big and bulky  and should be smaller and should not have a smiling face but a series 2 smirk face

again these are what i reckon would make some decent profit margins if created over time and quite frankly its just suggestions and not a demand
Title: Re: Thomas & Friends in 2013

I wouldn't be surprised but I'm hoping for the best, Duck may not be in mass production yet but he is still pretty much done. When this happened with other engines like Emily additional engines were still announced even if they were not released in the same year. This trend was broken however when Donald & Douglas were delayed and Diesel was announced they were both released in the same year. This gives me hope that BACHMANN will add at least one more engine. No promises though. I would however be very surprised if we didn't get some stock.

one idea that came to me the other day in large scale they sell Thomas' snowplough separately why doesn't the HO scale, think about it, they have the mold its not like collectors wouldn't buy it, and if they sold it for around $7.99 or something I'm sure some people would buy a few to paint different colors for other engines. It makes scene to me. because only way you can get it right now is with the holiday set or if someone sold one on eBay.

My suggestions for 2013:

Engines

1. Oliver
2. Stanley
3. Rosie
4. Whiff

9. Den

Rolling Stock:

1. Toad

Figures:

1. Lady Hatt

That's it for HO scale. Also, a revamp of Thomas, James and Percy would be great. Another choice is reintroducing the Tar Tanker Wagon.

2. Toby

Rolling stock:

1. Henrietta
2. Raspberry syrup tanker
3. Cream tanker
4. More troublesome trucks

I'm noticing a commonality among desired items.

Oliver and Toad are an obvious choice to follow Duck, along with the Red Coaches. Stepney would be an interesting sight to see in Bachmann form, as would Arry and Bert. A logical choice, considering they have the mold for it (Diesel).
BoCo and Daisy would be very surprising, but then the range is producing more classic engines lately, I would be surprised if they didn't eventually get to those two diesels.
Edward and Toby would be just the right size for Large Scale, though I would expect Diesel to come next myself- they do already have the plans of the OO model to scale up to Large Scale, as others have mentioned before.
Trucks are varied, but the scrap/plant cars keep popping up, as have more Troublesome Truck ideas..

I do look forward to seeing what will be officially announced for the Thomas & Friends range, once the information from Toy Fair becomes available. :)

I'm going to do some last minute predictions for 2013:

HO Engines (one of the following):
'Arry and Bert - These are what I think will be most likely in store for 2013.  They both have the same chassis and body as Diesel (minus the ladder) and they are still frequently used in the show.
Oliver - Most wanted engine by a landslide, and would go along perfectly with Duck, Donald, and Douglas!
Arthur - If I can see Bachmann doing any engine outside of Oliver, 'Arry and Bert, it'd be Arthur.  Bachmann seemed to have picked engines who were introduced in series 1-7, if they stick to that trend yet feel like picking one of the newer engines in that respect, then I think Arthur has the best chance.

Rolling stock (one or two of the following):
Red coaches - I'm still in shock that the red coaches have not been announced yet by Bachmann considering how often they are used in the television series.  Despite this, I think both the composite and brake coach are very good possibilities!
Toad - (Only if Oliver is made) he'd be an easy one for Bachmann to do since the tooling from the branchline range is available.
Chinese Dragon - Something fun for both older and newer fans, and it wouldn't be that hard for Bachmann to do since they already have the flat car for the dragon to sit on.  Plus if Bachmann made rolling stock like the ice cream wagon or the raspberry syrup tank, I don't see what's stopping them from making the Chinese Dragon.

Road character:
Trevor the Traction Engine - Trevor is the only road character I can see Bachmann doing at this point.  Regardless he has the right demand, and if Bachmann made Terence of all things, I think Trevor would be a great candidate!

Large scale (one of the following):
Toby the Tram engine - This is who I think we would most likely get in large scale, he is the right size and has the right demand.  Plus a lot of people model tram engines in garden railways so Toby might be handy in that respect!
Edward - If we don't get Toby I can see Edward coming into the range.  He'd be the right size since James and Emily have entered the range, but he'd probably be the last tender engine to join the range.

Rolling stock:
Henrietta - (Only if Toby is announced) perfect addition to come out with Toby.
Wagon repaints (blue and/or red)
Tanker repaints (cream and/or raspberry syrup tankers)

Train set:
Emily passenger set - Despite Emily and her coaches being available, I can easily see Bachmann giving her a train set in large scale.  The very same thing happened in HO, I wouldn't put it past Bachmann to do it in large scale.

Very excited for the 2013 announcements!  Let's hope this year is a good one :)

Well, the 2013 range is here... a bit disappointing, but hey, we got a certain third pair of twins. ;)

I think for the introduction of a completely new line of products, this year's announcements are pretty darn good if ya ask me! The sound-equipped Thomas just tops it all off for me! I've had my current one since 2008 and the motor tends to go every once in a while, so now I have a valid excuse to get a new Thomas (;

2013 range in my opinion is diss appointing, as I was really hoping for Oliver, and his chances seemed SO good! Oh well.

I'm sure they'll make him either next year or at least in the future. After all, he would be the second most requested after Duck was in that respect. It'll require a bit of new tooling to even make Oliver for the most part, so perhaps they decided to make Arry and Bert since they would just have to have Diesel's reused body, with some minor modifications. Besides, they'll at least get the majority of the classic characters out of the way to then plan out the future with the new/CGI characters as of the present.

I guess we will have to settle for Hornby Oliver and Toad for now, and red paint and extra Annies and Clarabels.  :-\

Honestly, I don't think the 2013 line is that bad.  The only addition in the 2013 line that was a poor choice on Bachmann's part was Jeremy, (which was very poor at that!).  It blows my mind that Bachmann picked Jeremy of all characters over the likes of Trevor, since Trevor has a lot more demand and potential for the range.  If not Trevor, than Butch, Bulgy, George, or even Elizabeth would have also been a lot nicer to see in this year's line than Jeremy.

Everything else though that was announced seemed rather inevitable to me (see post above).  The only other surprises for me was the speed-activating sound Thomas, and arguably Troublesome Truck #4, but that all comes down to it's design choice.

This year's line wasn't the greatest, but it definitely wasn't the worst.  I'll probably get Troublesome Truck #4 (depending on how it looks) and 'Arry and Bert.

Yeah, to those that haven't even gotten Hornby Oliver and Toad, that's gonna be a fun little hunt, cause there's no way anyone like me would be able to find those two... So now, all I have to do is to wait for next year....

Since Duck got another delay, maybe that means Bachmann is fixing the paint errors on him. They might be fixing him to perfection. Duck is VERY good so far. Bachmann did a really good job! They already turned his running board white, and all they really need to fix are those black buffer housings and turn them red.

When did Bachmann change Duck's running board the correct color. I must have missed it. :P

Okay, just brought this one up because we can use this and the wishlist instead of a bunch of other random topics from 6 years ago, no harm done :).
