Title: HO Red Rock Express Remote Just Stopped Working
Post by: santa_s_helper on January 01, 2013, 03:37:29 PM
might anyone have any ideas RE why a remote would just stop working? the power light on the remote does not come on, but the outlet works. the remote is only one week old...the kit was a gift from "santa," and has been set up and played with n and off since Christmas, nothing extreme.

Dear santa_s_helper,

You would need a voltmeter to troubleshoot.

Harbor Freight has some Digital Multi-Meters (DMMs)  for a very reasonable price when they are on sale or have a coupon available.

Another way would be to take the AC adapter (called a "Wall- Wart" by some..) and controller head to a local hobby shop and have them swap out each piece or test them.

This may not be your case, but;

I have run across houses that have split-power wall outlets:

The lower socket is constant power, the upper is switched by a wall switch near the door, to control a table lamp.

Bachmann does have warranties on new equipment with a receipt, they should take care of you.

Hope this helps.

Sincerely,
