Title: DCC AND DC operation
Post by: grandpops on January 02, 2013, 01:36:45 AM
Can a DCC equipped engine running properly on DCC be allowed to run onto a DC powered track? I know that Bachmann decoders are dual mode (DCC or DC) so it seems as though it should work.

I ask because I'd like to try out some automation ideas. One of them would have a train (DCC equipped)  run into a siding under DCC control. At some point a sensor would be triggered that would cause the track power on the siding to be switched from DCC to DC. The DC voltage level could be set at a level approximately matching the the loco's speed or it could be set at zero, depending on which would allow this scheme to work.

Thanks,
Walt

Yes, it can be done. You just have to know how to design and build the circuits.
