Title: 2-6-0 cab removal
Post by: gaichele on August 14, 2007, 08:05:11 PM
Can the 2-6-0 cab be removed from the boiler without serious damage to either? If so, how? The supplied schematic shows them as one piece, but I doubt this.

I am tempted to say, "yes, it can", but will instead say I took mine off without damaging anything.  It all depends, I suppose, on how much glue they used during assembly, if any.  There is a tab on each side of the cab that fits into a slot in the floor....these are easy to see.  An Xacto chisel blade is very useful here for prying. There is a vertical slot in the side of the boiler on each side that the cab wall slides down into (a VERY tight fit and almost impossible to see until you get things moving).  One must look out for pipes, whistle arm, etc. that plug into or overhang the cab.  You will probably get additional advice in the next few hours.  Happy RRing!
