Title: Adding smoke to EMILY
Post by: pethia on February 13, 2013, 01:29:59 AM
Just received my new Emily!  It is beautiful!   I would like to add a smoke generator if possible.  Anyone done this?  I have thought about using an LGB type or "sleuth" type in her stack...Anyone done this?

Try Googling using 'Seuthe', rather than 'sleuth'.  ;)

Will this smoke unit fit in the Emily smokestack?

My advice would be to be careful.  I had an LGB smoke unit deform the plastic in the stack of one of my LGB moguls.  I do not know what type of plastic Bachmann uses, but I wouldn't add smoke to an engine that doesn't have it to start with.  If you decide to add it you will also need to add a voltage regulator to control the power to the generator.   I believe that  you can get either 5 or possibly 18 volt units.   I have been in the hobby for over 30 years and I have either disconnected or cut the wires on all of my smoke units.

Depends which one you fit - Seuthe is the manufacturer's brand-name, not a specific unit - HERE are the G-scale units -

One of these will fit the stack, but whether or not it will melt it, is anybody's guess.

Me, I leave un-smoking locos the way they come out of the box - there has to be a good reason why they don't have one from the start.

Fitting one is not just a matter of poking it down the stack and connecting it up to a couple of handy wires, they need fitting by somebody who knows what he is doing.

Tac,
Thanks for the valuable smoke generator chart.  I think I will take your advice and leave it alone, unless someone else has done installed one with successful results.
