Title: ho layout and scenery
Post by: CAMPBELL LYNN on April 11, 2013, 09:24:26 AM
Spring is finally here and time to switch my Bachmann layout to a Spring theme.  Just wondering, should I lay out the tracks and train first, or should I set my new Scenery up first.  I have more buildings, etc for Spring, and do not want to get it halfway done and then have to take it down...just saying...I will have 2 tracks running, one with Bachmann HO Santa Fe, and the other Bachmann UP....thanks in advance for your help

Usually you set up the track first then add scenery. You would be very lucky to set up the scenery first and have the track lay exactly where you want them.

I have seen layouts that people just remove details and add different details to change the look to achieve this without disassembling their layout.

I have to disassemble my entire layout because for Christmas/winter I use a white flannel sheet to cover the table top, with white foam sheets for "snow-packed roads."

Sometimes I don't get around to redoing the layout until it's time for Christmas again. ...  ::)  :P

Campbell-

By all means install your track and wiring before you scenic or add structures and details. Track can stand up to scenery building much better than fragile scenery can survive track building. I suppose there's an exception to that maxim but I don't know what it could be. Also, you could easily scenic yourself in such a way that your planned track arrangement wouldn't work without at least some tearout. That would be a shame.
