Yes, he is here, and should make his way through the distribution network to your dealer in the next couple of weeks.

Well, knowing them, I'd say they'd price him around $50-$60 (at least since he'd be around the same price range as Donald, Douglas, and Diesel since they also had similar prices on them while I was browsing through amazon...).

And thank goodness that we got our favorite Great Western engine we've all been waiting for! I can't wait to see him in action and let him do the Great Western way or the wrong way! XD

Just got wind that Duck made it to a hobby store from a friend's friend of mine.  All paint errors have been fixed, including the buffer holders!  If anyone has seen or owned a model yet, please share on the forum!  I'd love to see for myself.

He's a stunning model, both to look at and performance wise. But I must say this...I was running him in this morning after he arrived in the mail, and after about 15 minutes running in reverse, he started to jolt and he died out. I managed to get him to move a few inches after waiting several minutes, but he wouldn't go more than a few seconds before he died out. I took off his shell and gave him some juice. He inched forward, but I noticed that there was an orange glow coming from the motor. I used a tiny flat head screw driver to pry two little copper contacts away from the main rotating section, and voila! The glow was gone, and he started running again. My guess is that the contacts were shorting out the motor :P I'm hoping the problem isn't persistent in all the models out there, but if you find you have this problem with your Duck model, I hope this helps :)

Just in case this does happen to other models, what do you use for juice? Oil or some sort of lubricant?

You don't need to lubricate him if he's brand new. You'll probably do more damage over lubricating him :P

I got my Bachmann Duck just the other day!  I will admit that I'm very surprised that he was released around July as opposed to September/October like most models in the range.  Either way, I love the model!  I'm glad that the model captures him in classic form, as opposed to the CGI form.  I would not have been as happy if the model came with his CGI face, black footplate, or  having that lamp on his sandbox, (seriously, am I the only one who thinks that looks ridiculous on him?).  When it comes to runners, I think Duck is one of the smoothest runners in the range.  He actually uses a different chassis than Donald and Douglas, as the wheels on Duck are smaller and further spread apart than the the Scottish twins.  Not something I expected, but still holds the reputation of being one of the best models in the range!  Some people also don't like how the buffer holders aren't painted red to match the model, but for me the fault is so minor you can barely tell, much like the grey lampirons on Gordon and Henry.
Either way, it's a model fans have wanted for years, and it's a model worth adding to your collection!  Bachmann have done it again by listening carefully to what the fans wanted to see, making a quality product in return for us.  I'm sure we will continue to see this kind of quality in 'Arry and Bert and many other additions to follow. :)

And of course only in a matter of time, I'm sure Bachmann will get more requests from fans to do more classics following Duck like Oliver, Stepney, and BoCo. :P

Bear in mind he was announced last year, so is actually late for last year's slot..... I think Bill and Ben had the same issue?
Arry and Bert will most likely take this year's autumnal slot.

I think they've been having plenty of those already! :P But In all fairness here's hoping some from that list will follow in future years...

Should have added 'more than ever' :P But yeah, all of the above would make nice additions, with Oliver being most inevitable.

Duck was delayed, but for a delayed model, he arrived earlier than other previously delayed models like D&D, Salty, and Edward since those models made it around the fall, whereas Diesel, Bill, and Ben managed to come out the year they were announced.  I'm sure 'Arry and Bert will make it by the fall this year too, especially if Diesel managed to come out so quickly too.

I'm holding off from making any video with my Duck until I have mine looking a little more show accurate. Not that the model is flawed, but there are a few things I want to sort. No fun in just taking a model out of the box and keeping it as it is  ;D

Quite happy with the model overall (I will say why later) but there are a few niggles here and there. I'll be keeping the Hook and Loop couplings given the majority of my stock use them, might convert him to have Kadees or EZ-Mates at some point. Front end is getting a working 4mm scale screw link coupling for aesthetic reasons, started doing this to most of my locomotives and I find it improves them somewhat.

Another issue I sorted was the bufferbeam. Why the buffers couldn't have come from the factory with red paint is beyond me, but it just looks strange. Easily enough, I masked the bufferbeams and gave them a coat of primer, then a coat of red paint. Not too happy with the end result so I'm going to fit him with sprung buffers, just out of personal preference.

This is Duck as of this morning. Decided to redo the eyebrows for a more classic look. Look at the cab, notice anything different?

After some work, I managed to give him a fully open cab. Will eventually build a dummy backhead around the PCB and wires, so it isn't too jarring. Biggest benefit of Duck's design however is in his bunker.

Duck's coal is removable. Great stuff, going to build up a mock bunker and fill it with real coal as it looks better. Can we have this as a standard feature of future steam engines? Really a great thing to include!

He's a good model, I'll be back soon with more progress.  :)

Jack

I'll add to the Duck hype, it's a pretty good looking model!

I've been moving my trains back to my place, so I don't have any track to run him on yet. Need to look into new, more reliable track brands (any recommendations? Considering PECO, Atlas Code 100, or Fleischmann).

I talked with a guy who opened Duck up and he said,

"In the front half of Duck, the motor goes all the way up in there, sort of causing the front end to lean downward.

Bachmann needs to add some small block up in the body shell near the front. That's what I did to mine and now he's level."

I suggest Peco.  It is sectional and more prototypical to UK standards.

Duck leans forward because his rear screw is loose.  I fixed mine by tightening it.
