Title: Large Scale Toby
Post by: aspoz on August 21, 2013, 02:01:52 AM
Not sure whether to post on this board or the Thomas board; this is my natural metier though - so if I offend, I apologise.

Mr Bachmann, when is Toby arriving?  I have two grandsons who know he is due.  They are going to be very disappointed if Granddad doesn't have Toby for them at Christmas, and that has to include conversion to battery & r/c so in reality November is a must.  Any chance?

Steve

Steve, no need to apologize if its large scale your interested in. However the General discussion, or Thomas board (better), even though mainly full of younger folk, and smaller scale talk, may get you faster results, as those people seem to hang by the seat of their pants, waiting for each, and every release date. Your country of origin may have an impact on availability, and dates too. There are separate sites for US vs Europe too. No answers here yet, so post again after a bit in Thomas land. Worst case scenario, one of your posts is moved or deleted, I doubt that will happen, unless you "spam it up", posting everywhere before giving people a chance to respond. Good luck on your hunt Steve.

We have heard from Bachmann in other posts, they will only say all new announced items are expected for delivery in OCT Nov Dec time frame. Nothing more precise than that, so hope for the best!

I spoke with a representative from Bachmann just yesterday about the Large Scale Toby.  He said that Toby is currently in the unpainted stage right now (Similar to the test models of Annie and Clarabel and the two trucks shown in the photo gallery).  Toby should be out before Christmas at the very latest, which is what I expect too since Emily managed to come out in less than a year and has a more complex design than Toby does.

Out of all the large scale engines that have come out, Toby is the one I am most excited for so I can't wait to see how he turns out. :)

Dear ModelTrainFan538

bachmann gave me the info of the HO Thomas products.

Here is what they said:

Sean,

Sorry, there are no final images available of any of the new HO Thomas & Friends products. When images are available, they will be posted on our web store. We will not release any info about Troublesome Truck #4 until the final model is available.

The Thomas the Tank Engine with Speed-Activated Sound will look exactly like the non-sound version.

Best regards,
The Sales Team
Bachmann Industries, Inc.

Cool, a little dissapointing about the speed activated sound but i haven't given up hope, sales reps don't know everything about models, especially ones that aren't out yet.

Who knows, to some eyes the Large Scale Thomas looks the same as the HO Scale Thomas. I'm not expecting a huge change for Thomas but I hope for a strong motor like Diesel has.

Thank you for update Sean!  That was very kind of you.

It's not really too much of a surprise for me that the speed-activated sound Thomas was going to be the same model with a sound decoder, but all the same I am interested to see how the final product will turn out.  I may just buy one to run at my club layout, the kids will love it since Thomas is a big hit over there.

As far as the rest of the products go, I am looking forward to seeing how the final product will turn out.  Troublesome truck #4 in particular, but I have a feeling we will see a photo just before Christmas, since rolling stock usually comes out the year they are announced.

Completely off topic but I heard that someone had gotten really mad that Bachmann didn't make a G scale Gordon and what he did was he bought a HO scale Gordon and built him with live steam not sure if it is true but I wouldn't be surprised
