Title: Replacement bulbs for TYCO #107 Floodlight Tower
Post by: wb2002 on October 03, 2013, 01:24:10 AM
Looked but cannot find replacement bulbs for TYCO's Floodlight Tower, either #106 or #107. If anyone have replaced these lamps, what bulbs were used and where can I obtain some? I could not even find any info on the TYCO forum.

Thanks,

WB,

Can you post a photo of the bulb (removed from the tower) next to a ruler or extended tape measure?

If you had a caliper and could give us the bulb's dimensions, that would be a big help.

Easiest way to post a photo is to upload it to a hosting website (like Photobucket) then provide a link.

Looks like the accessories terminals on the Tyco power packs from that era are 20V AC.

Thanks.

I had one of those years ago, and I believe they used E5 base 14V bulbs wired in a series/parallel combination so they could be hooked to the 18V accessory output of a Tyco transformer.

These guys: http://www.ledtronics.com/Products/ProductsDetails.aspx?WP=1086 (http://www.ledtronics.com/Products/ProductsDetails.aspx?WP=1086)

Have E5 base white LED's that should just screw in.

Anyone has information about Tyco Floodlight tower bulb replacement? The bulbs have a unique shape and I would like to replace one that has malfunctioned. I cannot locate the Tyco web site.

Thanks

...if at first you don't succeed, ask, ask again.  :)

Without proper exact measurements for the bulb glass and base, a photo, or bulbs you have tried that don't fit, etc. the likelihood of you getting any answer, other than the ones given, is slim, no matter how often you ask. We need more info, as it looks like no one owns the same light.  Also look on the glass or base of the bulb for small printing. Every miniature bulb has a type number, usually stamped, or printed on it.

wb2002,

I am one that is fine with you asking again and again because I hope I found your answer. If I have please let us know,it may help other's.
I stopped by my local hobby shop and asked the owner's son who is a Tyco nut ( and boy he sure is nuts) and ran your problem by him. He had a quick answer and said these are what you are looking for.

http://www.hobbylinc.com/htm/lif/lif1213.htm

They are tricky to put in he stated as the wire is soldered to the bulb's base. This is not a screw in bulb, it pushes out and the wires have to be re-soldered on to the new bulb. They sure do look like it would screw in to me, but what do I know? ::) ::)
I hope he is correct for your sake since you have not found any luck with anyone else.
He is usually 99.9% correct.

Those are 14V E5 base screw in bulbs, which is what I remember from the Tyco tower I had as a kid. The LED version I mentioned above would also work. It's possible, Lionel does it with a few things, there aren't screw type sockets on the the tower, so wires have to be soldered directly to the bulb instead.
