Title: Track radius (5') & g scale Baldwin 2-6-6-2
Post by: Geardriver on October 12, 2013, 03:48:22 PM
Dear Sir can a g scale 2-6-6-2 run on 5' dia track at all (slowly)? If not what is minimum dieter track and turn out #? I bout it because of its' unique beauty and historic significants. I have a 2truck Shay and Heisler and am happy! Gearhead

1:20.3 Baldwin 2-6-6-2 Articulated
Saddle Tank Locomotive
Performs best on 8' diameter curves or greater.

Above copied from the catalog!
should be fine on your 10 foot diameter curves (5 foot radius)

5' radius or 5' diameter?

I've run one on 2' radius (4' diameter) curves, so it should handle a 5' diameter curve. However, because it's a large locomotive, it doesn't look particularly pleasing doing so, and I cannot say whether it will be able to pull anything around curves that tight. (The one I had here was running light.) It depends on how much coupler swing you have.

Personally I wouldn't, but it is capable of doing so at least in a limited capacity.
