Title: Layout without DCC ?
Post by: Old Bandit on February 16, 2014, 02:34:47 PM
Hello there !
I run a small layout (one track / one train) without DCC.
Can I use a Bachmann 0n30 0-4-0 Porter "DCC equipped" on my layout?
I really like this small steam loco.
Thanks for your answers.

Yes. Bachmann fit a dual mode decoder that will operate on DC or DCC.

Depends on the quality of your power pack.

Dual mode decoder being run with DC will operate better when using a high quality, electronically regulated power pack. Use a power pack that supplies smooth, filtered DC power. Older rheostat style power packs and pulse power packs will result in erratic and unreliable locomotive performance. Turn pulse power off if your power pack has a pulse power switch.

Thanks.
I have a power pack that supplies smooth and high filtered DC power (using a LM317T) with absolutely no pulse power.
