Title: Adding sound to HO Spectrum HHP-8 w/DCC, Amtrak/Acela
Post by: rjwalter on March 26, 2014, 07:26:30 PM
Has anyone added a sound decoder to the Bachmann HO Spectrum HHP-8 w/DCC, Amtrak/Acela?
If so, please pass on the specs to a decoder that is compatible.  Thanks!

Digitrax SDH166D decoder

You also need PC,  Digitrax SoundLoader software and PR3XTRA SoundFX USB Decoder Programmer or access to such so you can download the HHP-8 Amtrak 651 sound project from Digitrax and install in the decoder. Search, you may find a Digitrax retailer to load the sound project for you.

I haven't heard the Acela--but based on seeing/hearing GG-1's on the Pennsy back in 1966, I don't think the high-speed electric locos offer much sound--could be a waste of time--  they were more of a"whooooosh!!" and gone--gj

Here is a video of one with a TGV LokSound in a Acela Express set

Search You Tube for prototypes trains. Usually eliminates opinions of what sounds there are.

No idea on how well the sound decoders represent the true sounds.
