Title: 0n30 2-8-0 decoder
Post by: Al NJ on September 10, 2014, 08:10:21 AM
Hi. I'm new to the forum and have a couple questions.
I recently bought an On30 2-8-0, item #25999. (No sound)
Does this locomotive have a Bachmann decoder in it?
And is installing a SoundTraxx sound decoder simply plug and play, (and mounting the speaker)?
Thanks.

Yes  it  will have  a  bachmann  decoder  factory  fitted,  It  will most  likely  have  an  8 pin socket in the  tender,  Simply  remove  the  fuel  load  and  the  decoder  is  underneath,
Some  locos  now  have  21 pin decoders  fitted

A simple way to  check  is  to  look in  the  accessory bags which you shouls have  with  the  loco,  there  will be  a  decoder  blanking  plug included,  this  will be  either  8  or  21 pin.

From  this  you will know  which type  of  plug you need  on  your replacement  sound  decoder,  which  is  plug & play

I have "what I did" at:

http://www.pacificcoastairlinerr.com/of_sound/ (http://www.pacificcoastairlinerr.com/of_sound/)

You could put one speaker but the set up shown sounds really good, here are the speakers in the Mogul:

With speakers bigger is better

Thank you if you visit

Gentlemen, Thanks.

Seems it's an 8 pin.

hminky, I've visited your site often.  Probably one of the reasons I ventured into On30!

Thanks again.
