Title: Driver diameter and spacing.
Post by: roystrains on October 13, 2007, 08:53:10 PM
I am wondering what the driver diameters  and distances between the centers of the first and fourth axles are for the HO 2-8-0 and 0-8-0 locomotives. The distances between the centers of all drivers would be nice to know but is not as critical. This is information which I would like to see in advertisements for all locomotives as I sometimes use mechanisms from commercial products for scratch building.  Thank you.

Hi Roy,

I just measured both the older Bachmann Plus version and the newer Bachmann Spectrum versions of the 2-8-0 and found them virtually identical.  The wheels are .700" at the smaller part of the tread and spaced .800" apart.  These measurements were made on used (well used) locomotives but I tried to average out the variations due to wear and feel the measurements are good to +/- .005".  As the locomotives were made in China, I expected the measurements to be close to round numbers in millimeters, but they were not.
