Title: Climax with Tsunami - plenty of sound but no movement
Post by: nawlins on October 15, 2014, 01:25:05 AM
Hi from Australia.

I literally just took the plastic wrap off my On30 Tsunami-equipped Climax (item 28601) - yes, it's been on the shelf a while! - and placed it on a programming track connected to my regular Sprog II (programmer) and Decoder Pro software. But in 15 minutes, it was recognised only twice, and in one of those I managed to change the changed the DCC address to 10.

But it simply isn't recognised by the Sprog programmer, e.g. I tried to set a Speed Table and only one point could be changed. Decoder Pro simply reports that no decoder can be detected. Yet I can open a throttle and operate all the sound effects, so it's only the motor that isn't connected (and with no feedback, it can't be programmed, I presume). If I turn up the throttle I get the sound effects but no movement whatsoever. And nothing's moving at all, so it's not the "simply" stripped gears problem.

I haven't yet disassembled it to see if the wire to the motor from the decoder have been misplaced, but that will be my first guess.  But what would you suggest I do, please.

Sorry about the delay in replying, just noted the post. If you can force program (in other words, don't listen to it when it says loco not found) then try changing CV19 to zero. What you describe has the same symptoms as a loco in consist.

What DCC system are you using to run your DCC locomotives?

Programming -- Check with  Sprog DCC  (http://www.sprog-dcc.co.uk/index.shtml) for any  software update needed and any known issues with the SoundTraxx Bachmann OEM decoder factory installed in the On30 Climax when using Decoder Pro.

The SoundTraxx Bachmann OEM Tsunami decoder in the On30 locomotive is dual power mode (DCC or DC) unless the feature has been disabled by changing CV 29.

Does your locomotive run using DC?
