Title: Decoder for GP-30?
Post by: JimJim on December 02, 2014, 03:31:01 PM
Hello All,
I'm installing a DCC decoder into my newly purchased GP-30 (62309).
On the parts pages I see decoders for new and old models, along with a DCC ready and a traditional PCB.
Which decoder is correct?
I'm assuming it's the "PCB - DCC (new)."
Thank you for your time and effort.
Jim

look at the parts drawing that came with your locomotive, or open it up. does it have two vertical frame halves? if so, it's the older style. if so, you can use any dcc decoder with a wire harness, following these instructions, courtesy of the late jim banner who was one of our regulars on this forum.

Loco # 63209 is DCC ready. It should have an 8 pin socket on the PC board. Or buy an NCE decoder # BACH-DSL https://ncedcc.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/200945019-BACH-DSL
This replaces the board on a equipped loco.  Joe

Maybe 63209 is, but is 62309??  That is the question...
