Title: 1978-1980 old train set
Post by: steve gillis on December 07, 2014, 09:34:35 PM
I have recently found My old train set in my basement. It contains a chassie systems electric locomotive and a B&O electric locomotive. Both are not in running order. I am just wondering what and where I should begin problem solving to get these 2 running again>
Thanks For Your help> rediscovering an old hobby

These locos are around 35 years old. There is a good chance the parts for them are no longer made or in stock. Your best bet might be to look at auction sites that sell model trains and see if you can get ahold of a running version of the loco to get spare parts. Might be easier to pick up a new loco.

What happens if/when you put them on powered track?
One thing to check would be for dirty wheels after sitting that long.
One of the first things I would do, would be to take the shells off.

Do you have a hobby shop or a model train club near by?

Perhaps they could help you get them running.
