Title: Need Help Programming SD-70ACe
Post by: Phils2888 on December 20, 2014, 10:42:25 AM
Hi, I just purchased this locomotive as my first for DCC.  Obviously I have messed up the programming as it starts too fast, there is little throttle response.  Does anyone have a similar loc that can share some program values or provide some help for a newbie to DCC?  The loc worked ok prior to attempting the address change, except that as soon as it was put on the track it started to move at speed 24 in reverse.  Suggestions?
Thanks
Phil

What DCC system are you using?

The DCC sound decoder in the Bachmann HO SD70ACe is a Sound Value decoder made for Bachmann by SoundTraxx to Bachmann specifications.

Let's undo what you have done programming wise by resetting all the CVs in the decoder to their factory default value.

***

Resetting the sound decoder CVs to their factory default value is a two-step procedure.

   1)  Program 8 to CV 8  (can use either Service Mode or Operations Mode programming)
   2)  Cycle power to the decoder by turning power to the track off and back on

After about six-seconds upon restoring power the headlight and backup light will blink simultaneously 16 times indicating that the CVs were successfully reset. However, if sound or lights come on immediately upon restoring power, the decoder did not successfully reset. Repeat the two-step procedure.

Alternate method to turning power off and back on to track.
Carefully tilt locomotive and tender to the side until all wheels loose contact with one rail. Hold the tilted position for at least 30 seconds so all capacitors have time to drain. Now lower locomotive and tender back to normal position on rail.

Click Here  (http://www.soundtraxx.com/factory/OEM_pages/bachmann/ho_sd70ace_sv.pdf) for SD70ACe Configuration Variable Defaults list. This file is a work in progress and as of today only partly accurate.  Use it as an index to lookup supported CV info in the Diesel Tech Reference (http://www.soundtraxx.com/manuals/Tsunami%20Diesel%20Technical%20Reference_1.13.pdf) and Diesel User's Guide (http://www.soundtraxx.com/manuals/Users%20Guide%20Diesel.pdf)

The Diesel Tech Reference and the Diesel User's Guide are not for the Sound Value but a SoundTraxx Tsunami decoder; however, it is what is available and can be used with some drawbacks.

The reference to locomotive and tender is for folks reading this who have a steam locomotive.

Hunt, thanks for the info. I had already d/l the manuals, just have not found the time to review them. I also d/l the other file. I did reset the settings to default and it is back to normal.  Still unable to change the address though.  Still working on that.

What DCC system are you using?

What address number are you wanting to set?

Phil watch this video on youtube and he will show you how to change the address on your Locomotive.

Place locomotive on programming track.

Use Programming Loco on the Program Track procedure.
Stop after you enter address 1079 do not go to step 4.
Put the loco back on the Main Track.
Select the locomotive by pressing LOCO then enter the loco address 1079 and press ENTER.
Can you now control/run the loco? IF not, use Programming Locos on the Main Track procedure to change the address in a Sound Value decoder.

Realize address 3 and address 0003 are not seen as the same by any DCC system. Address 3 (the factory default)  is a Short address and 0003 is an Extended address.

Mr. Moose, Thanks for the info. I have watched that video before, and just watched it again.  Same result, unable to change.  When I go through the steps as the video details and hit the last enter, It will not move under 1071, but will move under 0003.  I also cannot change from 28 to 128 speeds.

This is from the Mrc wireless manual

Programming Loco on the Program Track
1. Make sure your Cab is allowed to program on the Program Track.
2. Place the loco on the Program Track. Press PROG to select "Prog Prog
Track". Press ENTER.
3. First, "Adr" will flash, prompting you to program the loco address. Using
0 - 9, enter the loco address followed by ENTER, or press ENTER to skip.
Note For the beginner or if you want to only program the loco address, you
can stop right here. Put the loco back on the Main Track. Select the loco
by pressing LOCO then enter the loco address and press ENTER. Now
you can run the loco.
4. Next, "SV" will flash, prompting you to program the Start Voltage. Input
data and then press ENTER.
5. Next, "Acc" will flash, prompting you to program the acceleration rate.
Input data and then press ENTER.
6. Next, "dEc" will flash, prompting you to program the deceleration rate.
Input data and then press ENTER.
7. Next, "TV" will flash, prompting you to program the Top Voltage. Input
data then press ENTER.
8. Finally, "CV#" will flash, prompting you to program a CV (Configuration
Variable).
At this point, you have already finished most of the decoder programming.
You can stop programming here by pressing ENTER. The Prodigy
Wireless allows you to enjoy your model railroading without having to
deal with such questions as: What is a CV? What is it for? How do I program it?
9. If you want to program a CV, enter a CV number. Press ENTER. Then
enter CV data. Press ENTER. "CV#" will flash again, prompting you to
program another CV. To skip, press ENTER.
Note Programming a CV with incorrect data can cause a decoder malfunction.
Read your decoder manual carefully before programming a CV. Also,
read the Configuration Variables section on the next page.
Programming Locos on the Main Track
Programming on the Main Track can save you the effort of moving a loco
to the Program Track for programming. However, you have to know the
loco address in order to program on the Main Track. Otherwise you have to
program the loco on the Program Track. Not all decoders support the
Program on Main feature. Please read your decoder's manual to check
whether the decoder supports this feature.
1. Make sure your Cab is allowed to program on the Main Track
2. To program on the Main Track, press PROG to select "Prog Main Track".
Press ENTER. The current loco address will flash, prompting you to
program the current loco.
3. To program the current loco, press ENTER; to program another loco,
enter its address and press ENTER.
4. The rest of the programming procedures are the same as the
Programming on Program Track procedures (see above). We
recommend you bring the loco to a stop before programming because if
the moving loco has a bad pickup, it may fail to receive the program
command, causing a malfunction.
