Title: ON30 passenger car couplers
Post by: weaselbear on December 26, 2014, 06:23:35 PM
The couplers on the on30 passenger cars keep disconnecting from each other and from the engines.  Is there a solution??

First check the height of the couplers, they must be level from car to car.
Check the curved "pin" that hangs down below the coupler. If it is too low, it will hit rerailers and parts of switches causing then to uncouple.
Your track must also be level, too abrupt a grade change can cause an uncouple.

Could you describe where your problem occurs.

Also check the couplers themselves, early Bachmann couplers had a plastic tension tang, which tends to break off, losing tension on the coupler
Later couplers have a metal spring similar to Kadee. I pitch the all plastic couplers and replace with the new style or Kadee's, rather then have            them     fail when running.

If they are Mark II couplers, with the metal spring, make sure the springs are all in place. Sometimes in shipping, or rough handling at the hobby shop by customers, one or more springs will pop out. Resulting in the couplers that will not stay closed. I've seen the same thing happen with HO car couplers.
