Title: clean and oil F9 locomotive
Post by: nrbrooks1982 on June 15, 2015, 04:02:29 PM
I have a Bachmann F9 diesel, approximately 25 years old.  I am pretty sure it has never been cleaned or lubricated, so I am trying to do so.  I am having difficulty removing the rear truck and motor assembly from the chassis.  I unscrewed all visible screws but it will not pull out.  I am nervous to fiddle too much for fear of breaking anything.  Any suggestions?

The instructions sheet, which includes how to remove the motor, can be found here:

nbks82, what was it about it, that prompted you to look into lubricating this loco?

jbrock27 it just sounds rough when it runs; plus I've neglected it in the past when cleaning/lubing other locomotives.
Len thanks for the link.

Yep.  Len's a terrific resource :)

I like to use fishing reel grease (just a little) in the gears and use oil for metal parts that need lubing.  The grease has PFTE in it and is safe for plastics.  WalMart and KMart carry it-grey tube, inexpensive.

Thanks for the recommendation.  I use an Atlas lubricant I purchased from a hobby store some years ago.  So far I'm pleased with it.

Been using Labelle's line of lube products for 40 years; no beefs.
