Title: headlight on american 4-4-0
Post by: brad g on September 02, 2015, 12:08:58 AM
It looks like the bulb has burnt out on one of my 4-4-0 Americans.  Anyone ever tried fixing that?

Power for the light bulb is picked up from the from the lead truck. Check carefully. I would doubt the voltage ever got high enough to burn out this bulb. Might happen after many years of use.

Underneath the light you can touch the spots where the bulb is soldered to the arms, and deliver some voltage.  Works on my other similar 4-4-0s.  Bulb's burnt out on this one.  Since the light box is melted in place on the arms I can either break it free and solder a new bulb in place, or just pony up for a new shell, i guess.  I did buy this one used; who knows how old it is.
